Since we purchased our LSZ-1 from Sailrite Lisa has been busy getting her skills up to task. So far she has managed to create an outboard engine cover, grill cover, generator cover and 2 seat covers. Like all new skills it was a little slow and sloppy at the beginning, from getting the bobbins wound correctly to running a straight seam. But with lots of practice and many YouTube videos all the cuts, seams, and speed are showing vast improvement. The most recent creation ,the grill cover, seems quite professional indeed. We have used line around the bottom of the covers to cinch down all the material. We lost one of our seat covers over the side during one wind storm, so we added velcro straps to the new seat covers. This way we can make sure they don't go flying off anymore. This winter she is going to try her hand at replacing our bimini. The one that came with Starjewel is quite faded and is starting to sprout more than a couple leaks, no matter how many times we treat the fabric. During the last hurricane, the great people at Pecan Grove Marina were taking care of our boat while I was away for work. They removed and stowed the bimini to reduce the cloth area the winds could use to move the boat in her slip. Since it was already removed this seemed like the perfect opportunity to take the bimini home and use it for a pattern to make a new one.
Over this winter we will have to pull the old bimini apart to use it for a pattern and re-assemble it with some brand new Sunbrella fabric. The next big project for our budding seamstress is to complete a full enclosure before we move aboard Starjewel for our retirement. One more winter and we'll be living aboard full time. That should be plenty of time to have our beautiful new enclosure complete.
