Review of Shiver Me Timbers

We decided to upgrade the icebox on Starjewel to a refrigerator. An icebox is basically and insulated storage area, so an installed cooler. This is fine for overnight or even weekend trips, but you’re left with a lot of moisture and you need to buy ice every time. We had a Seafrost 12V BD cold plate system installed and now it is nice, cold and easy to clean and keep the moisture down. It will even keep foods frozen for awhile as long as they are next to the cold plate. It was a very welcome addition to the boat.
I wanted to wait until we had used the refrigeration system to write this review to make sure it works as advertised. After a long weekend Labor Day trip and a couple shorter sails the refrigeration is working better than we thought it would.

We used Shiver Me Timbers to install the system. I had thought about installing it myself but we wanted to get it done before Labor Day weekend and I didn’t trust myself to get it complete in time. When I called Shiver Me Timbers for a quote Butch said he would look at the boat and let me know if he could meet the timeline. I thought this was great. He didn’t just accept the job and hope he could complete it in time. He wanted to confirm his supplier would be able to get him the parts in time. All too often businesses too eager to get your money will make promises they can’t or won’t keep. Shiver Me Timbers doesn’t do that. If he says he can get it done he does. He called the supplier and looked at the boat and said he would be able to get it complete before the weekend. This was the best interaction I have had with getting things done on the boat so far. The documentation from the USCG, the purchase, and the dodger install were all disappointing from a customer service point of view. Shiver Me Timbers was very different. They gave a timeline and met it early. Not only was the project complete on time but the install was fantastic. The wiring, plate install and compressor were all installed perfectly. He also kept me informed all along the way. He called when the parts came in, called when the parts were installed, and he even called a week after installation and mailed a letter to make sure I was happy with the installation. I cannot say enough good things about Shiver Me Timbers. If you’re ever in the Oriental, NC area and need any work done on your boat you must give them a call.
