Small car, big boat…this is what Lisa has been telling herself the past few days. We are looking at around 700 days until we put the deposit down for our retirement boat. Our plan is to gradually sell things around the house and find other ways to save money for our sailing adventure. One of those ways is to sell our nice, fancy Jeep Grand Cherokee for a "sensible" ride. This week Lisa made the move. We have traded in the Jeep for a 2016 Ford Focus. Yes we still could have gone cheaper with a used car, but come on we can't have too much shock factor going from a fully optioned bells and whistle Grand Cherokee Limited to something smaller. Baby steps people.
We cut our monthly payment by more than half and reduced our auto debt by half. In the long run we should be a lot better off with the lower car payment and lower total debt, not to leave out the better gas mileage. And, if we sell our Harley's they would easily pay off the new car.
Lisa is still adjusting to sitting so low to the ground, not being able to drive off road whenever she wants, and actually using a key. With all the extra sailing dough, I am sure she'll get over it all soon.
