Awhile back Lisa was lucky enough to get the friends and family discount on visitors. Aunt Diana was visiting North Carolina for a school reunion and made time to hang out with us for a few days. Our friend Leslie was also in town to attend a conference the same weekend. It seems to be a guarantee that if Leslie makes it into town someone else will surely show up.
This was Leslie's second trip sailing with us, but her first one on a boat that we own. Lisa and I are still working to get Shane on the boat as well, but I guess we need to plan for a sail to a golf course to get him on the boat. Diana had never really been sailing before so it was fun bringing new sailor on board. A small storm had just passed the night before so the river was quite choppy. Motoring out was pretty bumpy, but once Lisa and I got the sails raised and Starjewel was heeled over on the wind, the ride smoothed out considerably and it was a great relaxing trip on the river. We were only out for about 3 hours because we wanted to give Diana and Leslie a tour of Oriental before heading home. We're growing quite fond of Oriental and it will probably be hard to sail away for the last time.
We parked the car at Lou Mac Park to see the Dragon eggs and then walked to M&Ms to have a bite to eat. I went into the Provision Company to pick up a couple things for the boat while the girls went through some of the boutique shops near the harbor. After dinner we had to stop by The Bean for some ice cream of course. It's getting hard to leave Oriental without a quick stop by The Bean.
After the relaxing day on the water Leslie had to attend the conference and we took Diana to the 82nd War Memorial Museum to see a little bit of US Army history. They have several memorials outside along with aircraft and a couple cannons. They also have a new edition, the OH-58D. It is of course the best thing they have on display in my opinion.
After that weekend I've been working constantly so this post is a little behind. I don't know when it will slow down, but I do know it will all come to a stop in 1 year 6 months and 26 days no matter how fast and furious it is until then. I can't wait. Aaahhh.
