This was a short weekend so as soon as Lisa and I were finished with work we jumped in the car and headed to Oriental. We left Sophia at the house because we were only staying one night. She didn’t seem too happy, but she’ll be fine. Friday night we arrived around 2030 put our stuff away and got ready for bed. Saturday we woke around 0630 got ourselves and Starjewel ready and pulled away from the dock at 0730. It was a brisk 60 degree morning; however, sunny and only a few clouds the sun soon warmed us up nicely. With only a day we were set on a beam reach heading nowhere, East down the Neuse River. We had a steady 10kt wind and quietly sailed along the river. We took turns lounging in the sun and just watching the waves go by. Today is what we are working towards. We can’t wait for more beautiful sunny days on the water to come. After a three hour tour of the river we tacked back West and started heading for home. A couple miles from the channel entrance we ended up with only 2-3 knots of wind so we fired up the iron jib and pulled down the sails. I guess it can’t be perfect the whole day.
It had been about a month since Lisa and I were able to get out and actually sail the boat. We’ve been down a couple times since Labor Day just to do work. I was also happy that the engine worked as advertised and we didn’t have one issue today. Of course since I’m writing this, Starjewel is no doubt slowly sinking to the bottom of her slip. The boat always has the last laugh.
